28 HS studes win in EDDIS 1, 2 broadcasting, publishing tilt

All the 28 high school student entries to the 2014 EDDIS Level Scriptwriting-Radio Broadcasting and Collaborative Publishing Contest won in their respective contested events during the competition at the Alexis G. Santos National High School in Bustos, Bulacan yesterday, September 18, 2014.

Ravien P. Gumatay, was declared Best News Anchor in Filipino while Maltha Denise Villarubia was declared Best in Infomercial in English.

The Radio Broadcasting Team in Filipino won 1st Place in EDDIS II. The Filipino Team was composed of Ravien P. Gumatay-News Anchor, Jose Mari Cabo-Co-Anchor, Althea P. Abejo-Showbiz Reporter, Ysabelle Clarisse Bautista-Local News Field Reporter, Angelica del Rosario-Weather Field Reporter, Venz Luis delos Reyes-Sports Field Reporter, and Renvo Pueyo-Technical and Sound Effects Man.

Meanwhile, the Radiobroadcasting Team in English won 2nd Place. The English Team was composed of Ceasar Gabriel Fernando-News Anchor, Maltha Denise Villarubia-Co-Anchor, Kyle Alain Tan-Sports Field Reporter, Kim Elizabeth de Jesus-International Field Reporter, Fabiola Alyssa Bringas-Weather Field Reporter, Mary Joyce delos Reyes-Local News Field Reporter, and Rean Angelo San Luis-Technical and Sound Effects Man.

The Collaborative Publishing in Filipino and English Teams cornered 2nd and 3rd Places respectively.

The Collaborative Publishing in Filipino was composed of Mia Justine Soriano, Gaibrielle Mae Cabrera, Rochelle Aubrey Teodosio, Catherine Bolor, Rafael Clemente, Rish Danna Maniquiz, and Emily Lois Catacutan.

The English team for Collaborative Publishing members were Jan Michael Esteban, Kimberly Czantal Tigley, Samantha Matanguihan, Kayla Mendoza, Eliza Alonzo, Amery Venci, and Jan Danielle Cayanan.

The publishing teams simulated actual workplace of a publishing company where they wrote their own articles, headlines, editorial, opinions, and even drew their editorial cartoons on the spot. They also took pictures within the school. They also conducted interviews as they were tasked to make a four-page, full-color newsletter. The newsletter nameplate given was Ang Minasa and The Minasa. They also designed their respective nameplates.

The teams were given only four hours from conceptualization of the newsletter up to printing.

The teams used Adobe InDesign to come up with the newsletter layout. It was the first time that the students used the software for publishing. Mr. Ernesto U. Guillermo, Jr., the HS Academic Chair, gave an orientation and intensive training for the publishing teams, both on the use of the software and on the principles of layouting.

Guillemo screened the students for the contests and provided intensive training together with Miss Maricar M. Bargado, the Paulinian Prism Moderator.

"Our objective is to redeem our lost glory in journalism," Guillermo told the contestants prior to selecting them, five days before the contest.

"REDEEMED!!! Thank you Lord! Caritas Christi Urget Nos!" Gumatay posted in his Facebook account.

"Congrats sa lahat... ang gagaling nyo," Mrs. Avick Diamzon Villarubia, mother of Maltha wrote on Facebook.

Mrs. Azcel Cabo, mother of Jose Mari and a winning coach in the GS department, expressed also her congratulations to the teams. Former GS teacher Miss Nancy dela Cruz also expressed the same with a wish of good luck to the next level, referring to the Division Level of the competitions.

The Division Level competitions will be done at the Balagtas National Agricultural High School in Pulong Gubat, Balagtas, Bulacan on Monday, September 22, 2014. Only the Top 3 in all the contested events would move to the division competitions.

Meanwhile, Bargado informed all the contestants that an intensive training will be conducted tomorrow as classes are suspended today due to typhoon Mario.

Ecstatic? They should be. After all, all of them, 28 contestants, will move to the Division Level.
