Town Mayor declares Monday as Bocaue special non-working holiday

Recognizing that the annual Feast of the Holy Cross of Wawa (Mahal na Poon ng Krus sa Wawa), which will be celebrated on Sunday, July 8, 2012, is of “unquestioned reverence and total devotion among its pilgrims and devotees”, Mayor Eduardo J. Villanueva, Jr. of the town of Bocaue declared Monday, July 9, a day immediately after the celebration, as a “Special Non-Working Holiday” in the municipality.
Local Executive Order 03-2012 issued by Mayor Eduardo J. Villanueva, Jr. of the town of Bocaue declaring July 9 as a special non-working holiday for the town.

In Executive Order 03-2012 signed and issued yesterday, Villanueva recognized that the town of Bocaue is “an open paradise for all people desiring to witness this unique feast”, which is celebrated annually every first Sunday after July 2. July 2 was the date when the 1993 Pagoda Tragedy took place where about 270 devotees died when the three-tiered Pagoda where the Holy Cross was mounted capsized during its nocturnal fluvial procession.

Being a special non-working holiday, there will be no regular classes in St. Paul College of Bocaue on Monday.

Meanwhile, selected students will compete in the 3rd Mahal na Poon ng Krus sa Wawa Inter-School Competitions to be held tomorrow afternoon at 1:00 o’clock, July 6, organized by the Parish Pastoral Council. There will be contests in Essay Writing in English and Filipino catagories and Poster Making. Photo Essay and Photo Story Contests will be held on the day of the feast itself, July 8, from 6:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
