School suspends classes due to bad weather

Heavy rains and news of a dam reaching spilling level caused the school to suspend classes in the afternoon yesterday, even as some parts of Metro Manila also declared suspension of classes.

Calls from parents and service drivers were received by the school informing school authorities that some parts of Meycauayan were already beginning to flood due to the heavy downpour early in the morning and the previous night.

Sr. Bernadette Racadio, SPC, Directress - HS Principal, allowed the early dismissal of students and pupils whose service rides or parents were already there to fetch them.

Mr. Ernesto U. Guillermo, Jr., the High School Academic Chair, asked the early retrieval of surrendered cellphones at the Student Welfare Committee Office so that the student owners could immediately contact their parents or service drivers for them to be fetched right away.

At about 12:30 p.m., pupils and students began to leave the campus to avoid getting stranded in case flooding would really occur during the later part of the day.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) earlier warned of a low pressure area (LPA) spotted about 30 km of Ambulong, Batangas which brought heavy rains from Monday until early Tuesday. PAGASA brushed off the possibility of the LPA developing into cyclone because it was over a land mass.

Other schools in Bulacan also suspended classes, some as early as 8:00 o'clock in the morning.
