Hermonegenes, a Grade 8 student, were among the world champions in taekwondo as
they hit two medals each in the recently concluded 8th World
Taekwondo Culture Expo 2014 held in Muju-gun, Jeollabuk-do, South Korea.
The two Paulinians were among the taekwondo team of the Philippines who
competed in different taekwondo events against over 20 countries that
participated in the sports expo.
Zamora competed against USA, Thailand, Japan, and Russia that earned
him Silver Medal in Kyorugi, the sparring event in taekwondo, and another
Silver Medal in Poomsae, a demonstration of taekwondo skills.
Hermogenes bested China, Australia, USA, and Egypt bagging the Gold
Medal in Kyorugi, while snatching Silver Medal in Poomsae.
Seven taekwondo athletes of the Philippine team were from Bulacan. All
of them brought home medals which they grabbed during the expo. The athletes
paid courtesy personally to the Bulacan Provincial Governor, Hon. Wilhelmino
Sy-Alvarado, a day after they arrived from Korea.
Zamora and Hermogenes were presented to the High School Department by
Mr. Ernesto U. Guillermo, Jr., the HS Academic Chair as they were congratulated
by Sr. Maria Remedios R. Cayetano, SPC. Sr. Remedios asked them to show a
demonstration on stage of some moves in taekwondo. Tarpaulins announcing their
wins were prepared by the school for the community to know about the international
feat.
The competitions were held on July 4-9, 2014.
