In the spirit of being one with the Parish of St. Martin of Tours, St. Paul College of Bocaue joined major activities to celebrate the Feast of the Mahal na Poon ng Krus sa Wawa.
Hosted by Mr. Ernesto U. Guillermo, Jr. and Miss Imelda Baltazar, the HS and GS Academic Chairs respectively, the school held its scheduled cultural show on June 29, 2014 at the Ramirez Park beside the SMT Parish Church.
The show featured varied talents from the Grade School and High School pupils and students, faculty, staff, maintenance, parents, and alumni.
Using the school's theme for the year "Paulinians: Alive, Ablaze in God's Light", the cultural show also highlighted video presentations about the school, the history of the Mahal na Poon ng Krus sa Wawa, and the Awit Tula sa Mahal na Poon ng Krus sa Wawa.
The doxology featured an original music composition on the Mahal na Poon ng Krus sa Wawa of Bro. Lesther Mangaliman, a seminarian from the Immaculate Concepcion Major Seminary who is on regency at SPCB. The lyrics were written by Sr. Ma. Gemma Moralita, SPC. It was performed live by selected Grade 9 students and some Grade School pupils.
In a rare gathering of Paulinian alumni singers, former members of the HS Glee Club, who are now professionals, rendered the Lupang Hinirang a capella.
The Salamin ng Lahi Dance Troupe of the High School Department interpreted the lively Kung Pista ng Wawa to open the cultural show, which was profusely praised by Atty. Pete Principe, Vice President and Official Spokesman of the Hermandad, in his Opening Remarks.
This was followed by an interpretative dance of I Need a Hero of the Grade School Student Council officers.
The audience was serenaded by the blending voices of three Grade 8 students Hannah Lettice Cruz, Alexa Abejo, and Danica in their rendition of Breakaway of Kelly Clarkson. Miss Helowis Sandra Cruz, an alumna, followed it up with her soulful On My Own of the musical Les Miserables.
Eric Lance Santiago, a Grade 2 drummer and lyrist, played Dance Again, while another Grade 2 pupil danced herself three times as a puppet to Saranggola ni Pepe.
Two violinists also showcased their skills with the sweetest stringed instrument. Mikael Jan Valeriano played Thousand Years while Trisha Ritualo, Grade 8, performed Allegro from Suzuki Violin Method and Hunter's Chorus.
The Grade 1 pupils creatively danced Flowers, Flowers while a new musical ensemble played the exotic bamboo Anklung instruments. The Anklung Ensemble was composed of selected Grade 7 and Grade 8 students.
A 4th Year live band performed Iisang Bangka of The Dawn. Meanwhile the Grade 3 pupils gracefully executed Kalatong Subli. The Salamin ng Lahi Dance Troupe rendered another folk dance which was a combination of Ani of Igorot, Pag-apir, Bulaklakan, and Pandanggo sa Ilaw.
Some Grade 4 pupils interpreted Angel in a ballet dance while the Paulinian Family Circle Officers of the HS Department, together with some faculty and staff performed a dance remix. The Grade 8 students did an upbeat modern dance.
The audience were led to a prayer for the repose of the soul of the victims of the Pagoda Tragedy in 1993 as a prelude to the hand mime presentation of the Staff and Personnel as they performed Power of Your Love. The hand mime was performed in darkness which enhanced the hand movements of the performers wearing white gloves.
Mr. Alejandro M. Manuel, the HS MAPEH Subject Team Leader and coordinator of the cultural show, expressed his gratitude to all the participants and those behind the success of the show.
A certificate of appreciation was awarded to SPCB by the Fiesta Committee. The certificate was accepted by Sr. Maria Remedios R. Cayetano, SPC, the school Directress and HS-Principal and Sr. Marie Celine P. Santos, SPC, the Local Community Superior and GS Principal.
The show ended with the singing of the Paulinian Hymn after Dana Reyes, a Grade 9 student and a Server of the Altar of SMT Parish, led the Closing Prayer.
Other major activities joined by the school were the Novena Mass on June 30 and the Ligiran on the same date. Paulinians also participated in the Fun Run held on July 2, the anniversary of the Pagoda Tragedy of 1993.

HS Faculty receives LC Paradigm training
The entire faculty of the High School Department of St. Paul College of
Bocaue were the recipients of a 3-Module Learner-Centered Paradigm
Seminar-Workshop Series from March 2014 to May 2014 which Dr. Nenita V.
Habulan, a technology and learning specialist from De La Salle University, personally
conducted.
As early as March, she personally observed classes of all the HS
Faculty, together with the HS Academic Chair, Mr. Ernesto U. Guillermo, Jr., to
assess the state of instruction in the High School Department. After every
class observation, she conducted one-on-one post conference with the teachers
which highlighted both high and low points of their instructional delivery. From
the validation observations, she came up with the customized 3-Module
Learner-Centered Paradigm Seminar-Workshop Series as intervention.
The series consisted of the modules Understanding the Learner-Centered
Paradigm, Stages Active Learning and Facilitating Learning, and Integrating
Technology for Meaningful Learning.
Dr. Habulan emphasized that the LC Paradigm focuses on the students and
they should be made active in all the facets of instruction. She let the
faculty realize that instruction should be designed in such a way that there
will be more of student-to-content and student-to-student interactions, rather
than teacher-to-student occasions. This can only be done if teachers design
their lessons with engaging and meaningful activities for them to realize the
essential understanding and big ideas of the lessons. This is consistent with
the vision of ASEAN Integration 2015, she said.
Being an instructional technology specialist of DLSU, she exhorted the
teachers to maximize the use of the existing technology installations of the
school such as the network infrastructure with Internet access. Digital tablets
should not just be used as storage of eBooks, she stressed, but their
connectivity should be maximized. There are a lot of educational applications
that teachers can use for technology integration in instruction, she declared.
Dr. Habulan also guided the teachers in the design of PowerPoint
presentations to make them more professional-looking. Presentations should not
function like a book, she said, instead only salient points of the lessons
should be in the slides. She presented the principles of design including color
and contrast, use of appropriate graphics, use of space, font sizes, and
suitable template.
The modules were conducted as early as February 26-27, then on March
10-11, April 7-8, April 10-11, April 22-23, April 24-25, April 28-29, May 5-6,
May 12-13, and May 14-15 with different batches of teachers composed of a
maximum of 10 teachers at a time.
During the culminating activity, Dr. Habulan expressed hope that there
will be a big change in instructional delivery beginning SY 2014-2015.
Sr. Bernadette Racadio, SPC, the then school Directress and HS
Principal, also expressed her gratitude to Dr. Habulan for having patiently
paid attention to the further improvement of each faculty member and wished
that Dr. Habulan could conduct validating observations during the school year
in preparation for accreditation.

Diwa conducts Genyo training for faculty anew
The Diwa Learning Systems, Inc. through four of its Learning Integration Specialists conducted again a refresher training for Genyo Learning Management System for both the Grade School and High School faculty in preparation for School Year 2014-2015.
The training included familiarization with the Genyo, an online learning management system hosted by Singapore. Teachers were given orientation on the interface of the Genyo portal, including how pre-organized built-in lessons can be accessed and assigned to students. Likewise, the teachers were taught on how to create lesson packages which include resources available from the Internet.
As a shortcut guide for teachers, the lesson packages can be organized into 5Es which are Engage, Explore, Explain, Extend, and Evaluate. Engage may use games, videos, online links, and other activities that hold the student interest on the lesson. Explore provides further activities that may continue to heighten the interest of the learner. Explain is the phase where the major content is presented to the learner, again using online resources. Extend includes activities that deepen the understanding of the students of the lesson at hand. Evaluate assesses the student's understanding of the different concepts presented in the lesson.
The training was conducted on May 26-28, 2014 at the Computer Laboratory 2 of the Our Lady of Chartres Building.
Meanwhile, a new Learning Integration Specialist was assigned to the school for SY 2014-2015. She is Miss Joanne Ignacio, who is also a teacher by profession. The LIS assists the teachers in the effective design of lesson packages, including the successful delivery of the same.
Genyo provided 40 units of Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 for the use of students, especially for those not in the Tablet Sections.
Students and teachers are given unique login IDs and passwords for them to be able to use the Genyo portal. Parents can check the activities of their children in Genyo by using the login IDs of their children.
