PETA stages "Lola Basyang" in SPCB

The Philippine Educational Theater Association (PETA) staged Severino Reyes’ three stories from the Mga Kuwento ni Lola Basyang at St. Paul College of Bocaue Fr. Louis Chauvet Gymnasium last Monday, August 6, 2012, a day just before Metro Manila and most parts of Central Luzon was inundated by monsoon rains.

The PETA’s live presentation on its 44^th Theater Season retold Lola Basyang’s "Ang Prinsipeng Mahaba ang Ilong," which is the story of a prince who was cursed with a nose as long as an elephant's; "Binibining Tumalo sa Mahal na Hari," a story about a maiden who earns the ire of the king of Tondo and endures three challenges that test her cleverness; and "Ang Prinsipeng Duwag", which is about a prince who is ridiculed for his refusal to fight wars.

Christine Bellen, a contemporary writer, reworked Reyes’ stories to add a fresh touch to the theatrical play and to illustrate moral lessons and kindheartedness through an extraordinary theatrical masterpiece.

The entire Paulinian community watched the play, whose interactive parts sent the audience into frenzy.

The play was part of the month-long celebration of the Buwan ng Wika, and at the same time the cultural show for the year.

The students in the High School Department spent time to discuss about theatrical plays prior to the live staging of “Lola Basyang.”

Mga Kuwento ni Lola Basyang was brought to SPCB by the HS Department Tour and Events Coordinator, Mrs. Cecilia Bordallo.

Tickets were distributed to the students on the day of the show. The show was from 9:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m.
